This site is located in the west of Wolverhampton in an area comprising existing industrial and residential development.
A previous Noise Assessment had been undertaken to accompany a planning application for the proposed residential development at the site. However, a representative of the Environmental Health Department at the City of Wolverhampton Council requested:
Additional information regarding sound from specific equipment associated with one of the existing industrial units;
Noise modelling to demonstrate the noise constraints across the site; and
Detailed noise mitigation solutions.
ACCON UK, through consultation with the owners of the identified industrial unit, undertook additional noise measurements of the equipment of concern. Whilst onsite, the experienced ACCON UK staff identified an additional potential noise issue, located on the opposite side of the proposed development, which had not been identified earlier. Through consultation with the operators of the source, the anticipated impact of the noise was assessed and mitigation proposed. This prominent source of noise could have resulted in complaints from new residents had ACCON not noticed it at the planning stage.
ACCON UK’s detailed noise modelling of the existing noise sources and proposed development layout, including proposed noise barriers, allowed façade-by-façade design of noise mitigation measures for each individual residential plot.
